Gosport Labour Party Ready to put things right
A great council gets Gosport working
Economic Development Board
Councillor-led leadership on jobs, skills and investment
THE PROBLEM
Gosport’s economy has drifted without clear political leadership on jobs and growth. Local businesses lack a single point of contact with the council. Skills gaps persist between what employers need and what training provides. External funding opportunities go unpursued.
LABOUR’S VISION
Labour will create a Councillor-Led economic development board bringing together decisions on regeneration, planning, skills and transport — working directly with local businesses, schools and colleges to create real pathways into good local work.
WHAT LABOUR WILL FIGHT FOR
- Create a Councillor-Led Economic Development Board with clear accountability
- Build strong partnerships with local employers and education providers
- Actively pursue government and external grant funding for Gosport
- Work with businesses to create pathways into good local jobs
- Publish open reports so residents can track progress
£ Cost & Funding:
The Borough Treasurer’s budget report calls for growing the business rate and council tax base through regeneration and inward investment. This board is the mechanism to deliver that recommendation.
Fiscal Responsibility:
Zero direct cost. The board uses existing council capacity. Its purpose is to unlock external funding and investment that generates returns for the borough.
WHY THIS MATTERS FOR GOSPORT
Clearer routes into good local jobs, more external funding brought into Gosport, and a council focused on delivery, not drift.
